I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

A brand new year – welcome 1954. The first new number one of this year was “Oh Mein Papa” by Eddie Calvert – it was number one on 9th January and stayed there for a staggering 9 weeks.

Eddie was a man who loved to blow his own trumpet so rather than sing the words of this song he just trumpeted them.

Perhaps he was the Jason Derulo of the 50s.
