You’ve Got A Friend In Me

How would I make a friend feel better? There would be a lot of responsibility when making this mix-tape. What would I include on it?

“Friends” by John Denver

Let your friend know that, no matter what, they still have you and you are going nowhere. When I listen to this song it makes me realise how important it is to go that extra mile for your friends. The harmonica part towards the end of the song almost makes me emotional.

“I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts

A very obvious choice is the theme from the sitcom Friends but it just ticks every box. A happy song about being there, a happy sitcom that everyone can relate to and you’ve probably watched together with many different friends at some point. I’ve included a video with a twist…..Time Lords need friends too!

“My Friend ” by Blood Brothers

This song is taken from my favourite musical, Blood Brothers by Willy Russell. I’ve seen it at least five times and I just love it. If you’ve never heard of it or seen it then take a look on youtube for full amateur productions or go download the London recording – you will not be disappointed. This song just shows how innocent childhood friendships can be before adulthood kicks in. Please, watch a version of Blood Brothers (but don’t look at the plot beforehand – spoilers).

“Stand By Me” by Ben E. King

Ok, by now I might be making a better job of making my friend cry more than I am at actually cheering them up but this song is from my favourite film, Stand By Me. It’s what friendship is all about and if you play this for your friend when they are sad, as I said it might make them cry but it’ll be happy tears and they’ll soon be smiling again.

“The Littlest Hobo Theme Song”

This was from a tv show I watched in the 80s about a dog who moved from place to place but always found a new friend. If you let anyone from my era listen to it then it will strike some very nostalgic chords and almost definitely cheer them up!
