I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

My Son, My Son” by Vera Lynn was Number One on 6th November 1954 and stayed there for two weeks. Long before Cheryl Cole was the nation’s sweetheart there was the original sweetheart – Vera Lynn. She done an amazing job during the Second World War keeping the troops spirits up during such an awful time.

In 2009 Dame Vera became the oldest living artist to make it to No. 1 on the British album chart, at the age of 92 – an amazing achievement.
