I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

Softly Softly” by Ruby Murray was Number One on 19th February 1955 and stayed there for three weeks.

This song could be a lullaby as it’s something I can see myself in my olden days bedroom with my nightcap and bed socks on listening to this song on my…hang on did gramophones have earphone sockets?

Ruby Murray is also cockney rhyming slang for “curry” and if you have a bad Ruby Murray then you definitely need the toilet tissue to be softly, softly.
