I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

Sixteen Tons” by Tennessee Ernie Ford was the first new Number One of 1956 and was at the top spot on 21st January for four weeks.

You simply can’t imagine artists these days standing on stage, singing and the only special effect they have is them clicking their fingers. Genius, Ernie, pure genius!
