The X Factor

I’m getting fed up of The X Factor now and I really think there will be an announcement to say that next year will be the last ever series.

Before a previous series began I had my own version of the audition process.

I think we all know that Simon Cowell and the producers of the X Factor trawl through YouTube to find potential artists and invite them to audition. Whether this is cheating or not who’s to say but do they pick the best people?

What if I was allowed to select people from YouTube to go on to the show, who would I choose?

This is how it works. I choose a “current” song that people have covered on YouTube and search for singers. I choose my favorites and put one of each into the 4 categories – Groups, Girls, Boys, and Over 25’s.  I’m not restricting myself to the UK either so its a free for all – Simon Cowell doesn’t mind. I also get to choose a “novelty” act so be prepared.

The audition song I have chosen is “Chandelier” by Sia and this is how it originally sounds.

Wow, I know this isn’t a job but I LOVE this job already! I’ve always wanted there to be another male/female group on the X Factor. One that is slightly more credible than Same Difference.

I think the blend of the male and female voice is something that is missing from the current music scene. I’ve discovered a duo that fits this criteria perfectly. They are a French duo called Laurène & Louis. I’m not quite sure how famous they are in France or even what their relationship is as all the information is in French – quelle surprise. Let’s just let the music speak for itself.

Every boy these days is trying to be Ed Sheeran or George Ezra and it does tend to get a little “samey”. This next guy, Michael Palmer, caught my attention for a number of reasons. He looked petrified, his voice sounded like it was ready to launch but he kept it in and I liked the tiny wee guitar. I couldn’t find any other videos from him but it would be interesting to see what else he can do…

*UPDATE – Sadly Michael has now vanished from the face of the interenet

Over 25’s

How is THIS for spooky? I looked at lots of clips and then stumbled across one by an Irish girl called Janet Grogan and thought there was something special there, not perfect but something.

Even though I did watch all the X Factor room audition shows and I do remember it now I watch it again but I didn’t realise when I was watching the above video clip.

I could go and search for someone else but hey, if she’s good enough for Simon then she’s good enough for me! Check out her channel on YouTube

I can only describe the next artist as the Swedish Lady Gaga. Her name is Ulrika and I think that this is only just the beginning for her.

I may have said at the start of this post that I would be including one “novelty” act but upon further investigation they are not novelty but very, very talented and something different altogether.

They are called Post Modern Jukebox and they take new songs and give them a musical twist – what a fantastic concept. They have the occasional guest singer as they have here with their take on “Chandelier”. I warn you – it’s genius…

Check out all their other videos, I have and it’s so clever what they do.

There we have it – if I was Simon Cowell these would be the artists I would seek out and I’d love to know what you think of my choices.
