I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

Cumberland Gap” by Lonnie Donegan was Number One on 13th April 1957 and stayed there for five weeks. Lonnie was the King of Skiffle apparently. I’m not quite sure how to describe Skiffle but if Lonnie’s style is anything to go by then it’s basically singing as fast as you can whilsy playing instruments as fast as you can. He always gets my foot tapping though…
