McVities have joined the festive party and produced a Christmas advert.

It’s really cute and clever but the John Lewis advert is still my favourite.

McVities went for the adorable animal approach:

Just as Tom Odell’s song, Real Love, was the star of the John Lewis advert for me the star of this advert, again, is the soundtrack.

It’s a version of “Only You” and it immediately reminded me of the version I know and love which was performed by The Flying Pickets.

Perhaps I’m making up this memory but every time I hear that song it always makes me think that this is the first Christmas Number one song in the UK that I can actually remember. Bearing in mind it was 1983 and I was 5 years old but I’m sure I remember sitting around the dinner table while it was playing on Top Of The Pops Christmas special.

In my mind, it was also snowing and I had to walk –  with Wellies on – back to my house and then watched the Christmas movie – Raiders Of The Lost Ark. I then played with my new scalextric toy in the dark with only the lights from the Christmas tree…happy days – RIP Brian Hibbard and others who made this a great Christmas memory for me who are no longer with us.
