I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

“Blue Moon” by The Marcels was Number One on 6th May 1961 and stayed there for two weeks.

This is a proper Doo Wop song and if it doesn’t get you trying to sing these words to perfection then you’re just not feeling it.

“Bom ba ba bom ba bom ba bom bom

bom ba ba bom ba bom ba bom bom

Blue moon, moon, moon, moon, moon
Di, Di, Di, Di, Di, moon, moon, moon, blue moon
Di, Di, Di, Di,Di”

I am surprised that even back in the 1960s there were “cover versions” of older songs and as far as I can see this is the original from 1935.

OMG – Pft me…
