I thought I would take a stroll down Eurovision memory lane and remind myself of some previous attempts from the UK that didn’t make it all the way to the Eurovision final.

The United Kingdom chose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 on the BBC programme Eurovision: Your Decision. It replaced the former selection programme, Making Your Mind Up after a string of bad results. It was broadcast on BBC One on Saturday 1 March 2008.

There were six participants which were eventually cut down to two in the final – ex Eastender Michelle Gayle & X Factor loser Andy Abraham.

What followed was perhaps the biggest crime against Eurovision ever! How could the song “Woo (You Make Me)” by Michelle NOT win?

Seriously – it’s got Eurovision written all over it. In fact, it could probably be a hit single today as the intro does sound very much like Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” and there’s some fantastic Tina Turner dance moves by Michelle and her “Sia clones backing singers”.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be and Andy Abraham won with a song that went on to finish LAST in the Eurovision final – poor, poor decision UK!
