I have a playlist that contains every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

“How Do You Do It?” by Gerry & The Pacemakers was Number One on 13th April 1963 and stayed there for three weeks.

To me this is the “sound of the sixties” and I love songs like this.

Interesting fact – Gerry & The Pacemakers were the first act to reach number one in the UK Singles Chart with their first three single releases.  This record was not equalled for 20 years, until the mid-1980s success of fellow Liverpool band Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
