What Does The “RCA” In RCA Records Stand For? Really. Crap. Attitude.

RCA Records have a Really Crap Attitude!

The Talk About Pop Music blog has been online for almost 2 years now and if it wasn’t already obvious…

I do live in the real world so I completely understand that it is a small fish in big pond but it’s mine, it’s got a steady following which is constantly growing and it allows me to indulge in my passion for music.

As it’s grown I’ve done a few interviews with music artists which I really enjoy doing and I openly invite people to get in touch if they want to feature on the blog. I receive various emails from people promoting an artist which range from the very generic (almost spam like) to the slightly more personalised (has my name and blog name in the email) and occasionally to my excitement – more engaging (more personal and obvious time has been spent looking at the blog).

I try my best to respond to every email and when the music fits (and I have time) I will put together a few questions for the artist and then write it up in a post.

Recently I published a quick post sharing the latest song from Betty Who as I thought it was an awesome version of a song I l really liked when it was first released by Donna Lewis. Can you imagine my excitement when I checked my inbox and read this…

Not only was it regarding an artist I liked, it was personalised to me and it was directly from Michelle Nemeroff at RCA records. I replied as soon as I could and went off and researched Betty Who some more and put together a list of questions I wanted to ask.

I even shared her latest video on the Popheads SubReddit that I subscribe to and it got a lot of upvotes and some good comments…

I was really excited about this until…

What a terrible way for a PR person to behave!

She was the one that contacted me in the first place. I get that my music blog is perhaps not to everyones taste so DON’T CONTACT ME IN THE FIRST PLACE RCA RECORDS – I DON’T NEED YOU.

Sadly, this experience has also put me off listening to and encouraging others to listen to Betty Who.

Shame on you RCA!

What do you think? What are your experiences with PR people? Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @popandtalk

This is how I imagine Michelle now…
