Who is Sevenths?

Sevenths is a music producer from the north of England. He likes to keep everything a bit mysterious and keeps it quite simple by saying “You don’t know me yet, but I bet you’re gonna want to”…

With a new single out called “New Love” which features guest vocalist Aimee Christina on October 7th – take a listen to the teaser for the track and then read on as I was lucky enough to ask Sevenths a few questions.

Hey Sevenths – thanks for chatting to Talk About Pop Music – I love your sound – how would you describe it?

The sound of my debut single is probably halfway between house and EDM with an urban edge mixed into the bridge. However, I would label “New Love” pop more than any other genre. This is my first single, and I aim to experiment with many different sounds and styles of music in my next projects.

Awesome – you’re at the start of what looks to be a fantastic musical journey. So,  “New Love” what’s the meaning behind it?

“New Love” is about moving on from a broken relationship of any kind, getting over it and transitioning into a happy state of being. The verses and bridge are more morose and focused on the breakdown of the relationship, but the chorus is all about having faith that you will find a new love, and being content just in that knowledge.

Who are your musical gods or goddesses?

My musical gods and goddesses are the people who can still have talent and individuality, whilst making music that is really accessible and easy to enjoy. I would say my ultimate musical goddess is Lady Gaga. There are also a couple musical goddesses such as Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston, which left us too early – they had so much more to give.

Absolutely agree – let’s hear from the late Whitney at her best!

Aimee Christina appears on “New Love” – how did you come to work with Aimee?

I was scrolling through Facebook out of boredom one night, and stumbled upon her! She had ‘singer’ in her biography, so I decided to send her a message. She sent a couple videos that showed me how talented a singer she was, and we went from there. We’ve worked on a couple other songs that are still in progress, but this one only took one recording session and ran so smoothly. She’s one of the best people you could ever meet – a joy to work with, and a great friend.

See – Facebook brings great people together!

What music is on your phone right now?

I think listing all 3000 songs would take a bit too long, but my phone has everything I love. Pop girls such as Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, through to EDM producers like Madeon and Zedd. Also a couple slightly older bands, like Atomic Kitten and Ace of Base, along with the current chart topping songs like Closer by The Chainsmokers. I’d say the genres I have on there are mainly pop and dance, but also RnB, hip hop and a couple alternative tracks too.

I have to say that I love a bit of Ace Of Bass – some great music on your phone!

Tell us something embarrassing about yourself.

When I was in primary school, I always wanted to be a singer (I do have backing vocals in New Love to be fair, but they’re mainly inaudible…) and I would perform in every single talent show with two backup singers. It’s making me cringe even remembering it.

Haha – maybe there’s footage of them out there that will one day surface…

Have you heard of Eurovision?

Heard of it? I love it! I’ve not enjoyed recent years as much – the music they sing now is less my style. But I still make sure to tune in every single year. There are usually a couple songs I like enough to buy. In the past decade or so, I’d say “We Are The Winners” and “Marry Me” are my favourites.

Oh my goodness – I loved “Marry Me” so I think we need to listen to it again!

What was the number one song when you were born?

In the UK, where I live, it was Gym and Tonic by “Spacedust”. It’s quite a funky song.

Wow – I really need to stop asking people this question as everytime I do I just end up feeling old! Great song though.

Who is the Queen Of Pop?

Lady Gaga.

Wrong – it’s always Madonna but keep trying 🙂

What’s your favourite joke?

Hmmm, I’m more into situational humour but I’d say my favourite joke would have to be:

“Why did Sally fall off the swing?

Because she had no arms.

Knock knock.”

Who’s there?

“Not Sally.”

Haha – I’m actually speechless after that!

What’s your favourite lyric ever?

This is almost impossible to answer. One line that I’ve loved ever since hearing though, is definitely in Lady Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory”: “Put on your shades cuz I’ll be dancing in the flames, tonight yeah baby, night yeah baby.”

That’s one of my favourite Gaga songs…

Have you ever been to Scotland?

Sadly I haven’t. I definitely want to travel to a load of places though, so that’s definitely on my list. I’d love to go to Edinburgh especially.

Well, give us a shout if you ever make it to Aberdeen!

What’s next for you?

I’m always making music, and I’m currently writing a song that I think will be a fun follow up to show a different side of my repertoire. My current plan is to release a few singles, possibly keeping the theme of “____ Love” going for a little while. After that, I have an EP that I’ve had planned out for a while now, and I hope to bring that to fruition as well.

All the best of luck with the new single and for the future and thanks Sevenths, for chatting with me!
