Who Is Michelle Branch?
Genuine question for you all, do you remember Michelle Branch? Is the name ringing some bells but not sure what music she did? Let me remind you first of all before we get started on this review of her brand new album (after a 14-year absence!).
EVERYWHERE (2001: UK #18, US #12)
ALL YOU WANTED (2001: UK #33, US #6)
ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? (2003: UK #31, US #16)
Now, She’s Back!
Yes, you did read that right, Michelle Branch is releasing her brand new album this week after a 14-year gap since her last solo outing. Her last album, titled “Hotel Paper” was released back in 2003 and now her latest album “Hopeless Romantic” has been released to all music platforms. I was a casual fan of Branch back in the day, I remember a few of her songs being radio earworms and I am sure some of her videos were on The Box and other music TV shows back in the day too. Let’s listen to her new album…
All Grown Up
The sound on this new album is very mature and contemporary, not that her older material isn’t, but you can tell on this album in the musicality and the lyrics that there is a lot of older wisdom here. The album is very mellow in its entirety, it’s an album you can put on in the background of a lounge party or the type of album you would have playing whilst out shopping in some of the trendiest of shops. This is no bad thing, by the way. I did struggle to find stand out tracks on this album, mainly because it is cohesive through and through and you have to listen to it as a whole rather than as individual songs. That being said, my ear buds really enjoyed the songs “Fault Line”, “City” and “Not A Love Song”. The album is really worth checking out, even if you were just a casual fan in the early 2000’s like I am.
Here are my iTunes ratings for the album…
So, go and take a listen for yourself on Spotify.
