WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Tina Cousins

Times. “Mysterious Times”. Tina Cousins ‘prayed’ for chart success, and it was “Just Around The Hill”!

UK, Essex born singer Tina Cousins has always wanted to be a singer and after a short modelling career in the mid-1990’s, she did just that, releasing her debut single “Killin’ Time” in 1997. Unfortunately, it was a flop, failing to reach the UK top 75. Her follow up “Angel” fared just the same, but she hadn’t gone un-noticed. German producer Sash, who had already scored four massive global hits the previous year, heard Tina and was impressed with her, so much so he asked her to perform vocals on his new composition “Mysterious Times”. Released in August 1998, the song followed its predecessors in becoming a huge global smash hit, reaching No.2 in the UK and No.11 on the US dance chart.

Tina wasted no time in releasing “Pray”, a song produced by Pete Waterman (yes that one!). It reached No.20 in the UK and No.8 in Australia. She re-released “Killin’ Time” in early 1999, this time it did much better making No.15 in the UK and contributed to the ABBA tribute song “Thank ABBA For The Music” along with Steps, Cleopatra, B*Witched and Billie Piper, which made No.4 in the UK, No.8 in Sweden and No.9 in Australia.

Tina’s debut album “Killing Time” was released in 1999 as was Gold certified in Australia for sales of over 35,000 copies. The album reach No.50 in the UK and also featured the single “Forever”, which made No.14 in Australia and No.38 in the UK. She re-released “Angel” later that year, this time managing No.46 in the UK.

Tina reunited with Sash at the beginning of the new century on his single “Just Around The Hill” which gave him his eighth UK top ten hit as well as charting across Europe and came in two versions, a down-tempo, almost ballad version and, of course, a dance version. You will have to decide which one is the best…

After a break, Tina returned in 2005 with the single “Hymn”, taken from her second album “Mastermind”, which also included a version of Black’s 1987 hit “Wonderful Life”, which Tina took to No.58 in the UK but was more successful in Australia, reaching No.17. The singles “Come To Me” and “Pretty Young Thing” were only minor hits in Australia, where the album reached No.48.

Tina worked with Dutch DJ’s and producers 4 Strings on their 2007 single “Curious”, while production team Resource remixed “Hymn” in 2009, the same year UK producer Bellatrax produced her single “Can’t Hold Back”. Tina released her verson of Kings Of Leon’s “Sex On Fire” in 2010 with an equally saucy video. It was one of five new tracks released over the next twelve months, although no studio album or compilation was forthcoming.

Tina divides her time between the UK and Australia and still tours, most recently with Sonique and Whigfield! She released the track “Screams” in 2014 and “Bullet In The Gun” in 2015, although no new music has been released or announced since.
