PLAYLIST: What’s New On What The Pop?

Hands up if you know how many different classifications of pop music exist?

If you said 11 – well done. According to some sources you would be correct! According to others pop music is simply what’s ‘popular’. That’s fine but I need to categorize things ok!

What are they I hear you ask? Well, click here for a quick rundown together with definitions, some sample songs and a full Spotify playlist, then check out the latest songs that have just been added to the awesome playlist below

‘On The Radio’ – Frank Hammersland

The Norwegian Grammy Award winner Frank Hammersland is a well known figure on the Norwegian pop-rock scene, known from popular bands such as Pogo Pops, Popium and Evig Din For Alltid. Pogo Pops had a huge following and did in many ways start the famous «Bergensbølgen» musical movement in the early 90s, which became well noticed abroad.

‘Let Somebody Love You’ – Ksenia

Ksenia is a recording artist with Unique Pop Flavor. Combining electronic beats with heartfelt lyrics and modern songwriting, she writes her powerful lovesong anthems for strong girls around the world.

‘Pastel Goth’ – Joseph Dubay

A Charleston, SC native, Joseph Dubay grew up in the middle of a melting pot of artistic culture.  As an artist, he began his career writing folk songs like his single Kings & Thieves, taking direct inspiration from the likes of Dave Van Ronk, and channeling his inner Johnny Cash with songs like Old Brother.  His modern take on Folk is deep and dark, but gives the listener a feeling of warm nostalgia. One journalist for the Band Camp Diaries his songs were “inspired by the best folk and Americana traditions, yet it has a modern flair that echoes contemporary indie-folk artists” and that “You could almost close your eyes and imagine Ryan Adams jamming out with Johnny Cash, while Elliott Smith smiles with approval!”

‘Driving In The Dark’ – Amanda Jordan

Amanda Jordan is a 23 year old Canadian singer, songwriter and performer from Smiths Falls Ontario. She is a recent graduate from Carleton University where she received a Bachelor of Music Honors Degree with a focus on songwriting.  Presently Amanda is residing in Nashville where she is is pursuing her career songwriting, and performing in writers rounds . Amanda is also a regular on The Songbird Tour Bus in Nashville where she performs her new original music. In 2018 one of Amanda’s songs was selected as a finalist in the Canadian Songwriting Competition placing her song “Silverado Run” in the top six.

She was chosen to open for Brett Kissell, in 2018, in Sudbury and was also selected as one of the Top Ten in the Red Dot Ole Songwriting Competition in 2016 and 2917. She performed before the Nashville Ole judges during the week of the CCMAs in Canada both years. In 2016 Amanda was cast as an actor and singer in a made for TV movie, Revenge of The Daughter, where she performed two originals live in the movie. Amanda considers herself very blessed to be able to pursue dreams songwriting and performing in Nashville.

‘All Back’ – G.W. Souther

Describing G.W. Souther is depicting a modern day representation of the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, and Earth Wind & Fire. They are a 4 piece melting pot of artists based out of Orlando,FL blending the likes of Pop, Rock, and Soul with their incredible vocal abilities and musicianship together. Yes, they play and sing their instruments the entire show! That means multiple leaders, sweet harmonies, and an instrumental blend that’s guaranteed to keep you engaged and wanting more. Singles such as “Dr. Bad Girl”, Who’d U Love”, and “Groupie” have become fan favorites and have led to a unique vibe between the stage and the audience every night they play.

‘Back To Life’ – Ollie Wride

The lush, synth pop meets art rock project of English songwriter/performer Ollie Wride. More commonly known as lead vocalist and songwriter for San Francisco based FM-84, penning 80s inspired pop anthems “Running In The Night”, “Never Stop”, became one of the more influential artists of the “retro-wave” genre. Ollie Wride’s fascination with memories, nostalgia’s pin up’s and assuming character led concepts of triumphing over adversity are on full display with an adrenaline filled debut LP.
