So, what’s new in The Listening Room recently?

‘Dream In The Daytime’ – Kevin Scoma

Kevin Scoma is a lifelong singer-songwriter and artist based in Buffalo, NY. His debut EP Into the Weeping Sea combines acoustic instrumentation with lush electronic textures to create a transcendent and moody folk-rock sound. While recording the album with his good friend and producer Art Lakewood in the Spring of 2019, an unexpected spiritual awakening provided Kevin with a newfound creative focus and also inspired the concept for his album. Guided by a simple and honest approach to songwriting, Kevin Scoma has grown up writing music, performing and touring with several indie rock bands. Some bands he has shared the stage with include Portugal The Man, Bleachers, Lucy Dacus, The Paper Kites, July Talk, and many others.  Into the Weeping Sea will be released 10/11/2019.

‘Skies’ – Tenna

Tenna is a Canadian-born singer-songwriter based out of Toronto. Her biggest inspiration is her father who she grew up listening to sing and play Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles’ songs on guitar, which influenced her poetic songwriting. Tenna’s music can have a dark tone at times, while at the same time, being light in its imagery. Tenna writes about emotionally abusive relationships, love, and social issues. From her upcoming EP, Tenna addresses the struggles of female sexual assault victims in the song “Why Didn’t You?” Tenna’s music pushes boundaries and is a deeper, darker pop music with a more organic vibe. With hints of electronic music and a touch of R&B, Tenna’s EP, titled “Silver Storm”, is influenced by a variety of different genres. Currently, Tenna is working on a complete album and is back to writing alongside her acoustic guitar and her father’s unique guitar melodies.

‘Stones’ – ARI TAHAN

ARI TAHAN is a dedicated artist from Guildford, Surrey, who has many influences toward her music including Adele, Emelie Sande, Jessie Ware and James Morrison to name a few.

She has been working with singer/songwriter, Judie Tzuke and producer, David P Goodes on her upcoming EP.

Her music lends itself strongly to a deep singer/songwriter feel with very emotive qualities; using very powerful lyrics and melodies telling us her story within each individual song she sings.

She has also been doing intimate acoustic sessions, performing stripped back versions of her own songs and covers, playing at weddings and in pubs and bars around Surrey and London, including a 2 hour set monthly at Primo Bar in the Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster.

‘Someone Nue’ – Natalie McCool

Natalie McCool is a singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist and has picked up a steadily growing support base of fans and critics alike with her truly innovative and beautiful take on pop music. Latest album ‘The Great Unknown’ was self-written & recorded and produced with Dave Berger from Outfit at Schall Und Wahn in Liverpool. Out now on iTunes & Spotify the album also features additional production and mixes on singles by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Clean Cut Kid, Cabbage) and is without doubt McCool’s finest and most accomplished set of songs to date.

Perfect future pop that sets Natalie apart from her contemporaries, ‘The Great Unknown’ features a number of prickly pop tunes like Huw Stephens favourite ‘Pins’; rousing epic numbers like ‘Fortress’ envelop subtly emotive songs such as BBC Radio 1 playlisted ‘Cardiac Arrest’.

‘The Elephant’ – Granfalloon

Granfalloon, is the musical project of Manchester based artist and producer Richard Lomax. Lomax makes a hybrid of lo-fi folk, experimental music, and electronica – weaving oddball elements, such as Omnichords, acoustic guitars, and vintage drum loops, into dreamy songs and cinematic soundscapes. Granfalloon’s second album entitled RGB (or Red Green Blue) is out this September on Spotify, Apple Music, and 12″ vinyl.
