‘KONG!’ – The 131ers
Neon. Rust. Chemical plants and railroad tracks. Industrialized particulate set ablaze by the setting sun. These common sights litter the east side of the township of Torrance. Despite being far from the surf and spectacle Southern California is known for, The 131ers have mutated into one of the most vibrant indie collectives right in Los Angeles’ backyard.
Founded in 2012, the band has grown from a two piece blue-veined American folk project to a full scale quadraphonic masterpiece. The solid foundation of friendship between founding members Kaleb Davies (vox/guitar) and Ryan Dawson (drums) permeates every note, eventually shepherding fellow members Chris Graue (bass) and Greg Wilmot (guitar) into the fold. In their own way, The 131ers have reclaimed and reinvented Americana. Their confession to short-term, present moment pleasures of beer and fellowship sparks a musical anomaly that clearly doesn’t belong in one of America’s many crumbling dystopias.
‘So Far From Home’ – Don’t Forget Rupert
A 4 piece alternative rock band hailing from Nottingham, Don’t Forget Rupert’s infectious energy and catchy hooks have every crowd dancing and singing along from the first song. A band that seriously knows how to command a stage and have fun whilst doing it – the enjoyment they get from their music shows in their eccentric yet captivating performance. Having been featured on BBC Radio 1, headlined Rescue Rooms and sold out The Bodega twice, as well as performances at Splendour and Dot to Dot Festivals along the way, 2018 has been a huge year for the band. Kicking off 2019 with a performance on Rock City mainstage and a UK headline tour, this year is set to be a big one!
‘LaLaLa’ – Felin
F E L I N is a Swedish audiovisual duo consisting of songwriter/ artist Elin Blom and photographer/ director Fredrik Etoall (the “F” in F E L I N).
Having worked with the likes of Icona Pop, The Rolling Stones and Adam Lambert, F E L I N are all about the highest quality of sound as well as image, by making the two inter-dimensional and expansive of one another.
FELIN released their debut EP last fall and played the legendary TV-show ”Rockpalast” in Germany. Their song have been played on the radio in Scandinavia and UK and now they’re ready for the Swedish festival summer coming up.
‘The Healer’ – The Then & There
The Then & There is a new Swedish group featuring guitarist and song writer Jakob Moström from the Isolation Years, Patrik Jakubowski from Riddarna, and Karl Ågerup from Sista Vilan.
The band’s 2018 single Sand received heavy rotation on Swedish radio P4 and the station described it as “the best [they] heard in a long time. Can’t stop listening to it! Great feeling.”
‘Masquerade!’ – The Orange Kyte
A Vancouver via Dublin, Ireland, weirdo-pop outfit which began as a single-a-month experimental recording project, The Orange Kyte makes raw garage-psych flanked by wailing sax and wild n’ unhinged organ. Portland label, Little Cloud Records, released the single compilation LP ‘Grow It Right’ in 2017 and the first studio LP, “The Orange Kyte Says Yes!” in 2018. Recorded by Chris van der Laan, the new album ‘Carousel’ is coming to yr ear-drums in November 2019. With influences ranging from 60s psych and garage to 90s Britpop and shoegaze via 70s Krautrock and 80s post-punk, The Orange Kyte provides a soundtrack for brain-melting fun times. Along with mini tours in Western Canada and Ireland, the Orange Kyte toured US West Coast with the Babe Rainbow. Notable festival appearances include Levitation & Desert Daze (Joshua Tree, CA).
