What The Pop?

PLAYLIST: What’s New On What The Pop?

Hands up if you know how many different classifications of pop music exist?

By Steve McSteveface

If you said 11 – well done. According to some sources you would be correct! According to others pop music is simply what’s ‘popular’. That’s fine but I need to categorize things ok!

What are they I hear you ask? Well, click here for a quick rundown together with definitions, some sample songs and a full Spotify playlist, then check out the latest songs that have just been added to the awesome playlist below

‘Some Days’ – Mikey

Mikey is the new project from singer/songwriter Mike Schiavo. After two years of writing and sculpting his sound, he is finally ready to unleash the songs that came from the process.

‘Long Day’ – Tasman Edge

Tasman Edge is a songwriter and drummer who draws inspiration from many genres of music, including pop, country, blues, jazz and Eastern European/Balkan folk music. Tasman Edge features collaborations with various talented vocalists and musicians from around the world.

‘Trick’ – Kevin Pearce

For some performers, music is an escape; for others, perhaps, a release. For Kevin Pearce it’s definitely all that – but for the Essex-based singer-songwriter, it’s also much more. From an early age, he thought music could help him be who he wanted to be; but first, Kevin had to imagine, then create, that person.

‘Moema’ – Leisure Tank

Leisure Tank is raw, minimalistic, analogue rock with unpredictable song structures and heavy, danceable grooves. K.C.’s voice and poetical lyrics have been compared to early PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi and Leslie Feist. Leisure Tank is a indie rock with folk influences from London NW.

‘Foreign Kiss’ – Archie Faulks

London based singer-songwriter, previously performed and released music as Tenterhook. As seen on tour with Isaac Gracie, Asgier, Rhodes and more.

‘Don’t Cancel Your Plans’ – Point No Point

Point No Point is located on a peninsula in the US state of Washington. It is known for its lighthouse and the bird populations of the area.

Drift is the first official solo album of multi-instrumentalist Jana Sotzko. Having grown up in the plattenbau eastern part of Berlin, she has played in stylistically diverse bands and projects for over 20 years. Past and current groups include indie band DROPOUT PATROL and the experimental kraut trio SOFT GRID. In addition, she works as a freelance composer, especially in the fields of dance and performance. Drift, released under the alias POINT NO POINT, marks in many ways a return to early home-recording experiments with Tascam 4-track recorders and without a precise idea of what it all should sound like in the end.
