So, what’s new on the New Music Express recently?
‘Wherever You Are’ – Last One Home
Last One Home are the stage-shaking, up-and-coming, pop rock band consisting of songwriter and singer-guitarist Tom Westlake, bassist Harry Lowndes and drummer Phil Horler.
The band have hit 2019 full-on with major success, making it to the top 20 shortlist of the DrakeYolanDa Award out of hundreds of applicants from across the UK. This newly prestigious award scheme resulted in a performance in front of judges Gareth Malone, Matt Cardle, YolanDa Brown, Ben Earle and Roisin O’Connor.
Last One Home’s single ‘You Don’t Have To Hold On’ was released in February and gained vast amounts of popularity, immediately being added to the ‘Indie Radar’ and ‘This Noise Rocks’ playlists on Spotify! It has since been added to This Feeling’s ‘Best New Bands’ playlist!
The single ‘Give You The World’ has been played on BBC Somerset, BBC Introducing in Devon & Cornwall and has been featured on multiple blog websites including ‘Indie Buddie’ where the song is described as having ‘enough gusto to ignite a live audience’ and being ‘a cracking pop rock number’.
Previous to this the band released ‘Land Of Immortality’ and it was very well received – making the Semi- Finals of the UK Songwriting Contest and being featured in the blog Musically Fresh as an “addictive’ and “damn good pop song with a solid rock foundation” and a “youthfully exuberant chorus”.
Earlier, Last One Home released their self-titled EP, from which the single ‘Bring Down The Storm’ won the band the ‘Music Expo’ prize at the ‘Glastonbury FM Songwriting Competition 2018’.
The band’s success so far has led them to support internationally famous bands such as ‘Crazy Town’, ‘Courage My Love’ and ‘Halflives’ on their UK tours.
‘Get Well’ – Cameron Sanderson
London based Cameron Sanderson is a British and Indo-Guyanese Producer / multi-instrumentalist that creates dark, alternative singer/songwriter pop gelling together rock, electronica, with r&b influence.
Born in Enfield, England, Cameron growing up would wake to the sound of Kerrang coming from his parents TV, being captivated by Linkin Park & other genre artists. While in College his cover of Sleepwalking became a viral video on YouTube. He then started growing a dedicated, loving fan base who he keeps in touch with daily.
‘Vari’ – The Lutras
Following their totally independent debut release, ‘Run & Hide’, and having amassed over 100,000 combined streams, Scottish quartet The Lutras return with eagerly awaited follow-up ‘Vari’; plus a stripped-back piano demo of live favourite ‘Times We Had’ to be digitally released 2nd October 2019.
Produced by Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson), Vari is a soulful, folklore inspired rock number where the protagonist tussles with infatuation, songwriter and bassist Danny explains, “it’s a personal song for the hopeless romantics and day-dreamers. For the people who lust for longing, love and affection – put that in yer pipe, Mozart”. Drawing on their mutual love of 60’s & 70’s rock ‘n’ roll and big pop choruses complemented by Rintoul’s production, The Lutras cleverly forge a timeless record.
In the past 12 months, The Lutras have twice sold out hometown headline shows at the 350 capacity Venue in Dumfries, alongside rapturous performances at Edinburgh’s Liquid Rooms and Glasgow’s iconic King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, firmly cementing the foursome as one of Scotland’s most-hotly tipped new bands. Now, armed with a new release and a ferocious live set, The Lutras are set to make their mark across the U.K., having announced a tour in association with legendary club night This Feeling, plus a series of dates up and down the isles.
