Fifth Lucky Dragon release “Timeline”
Welcome to the world od Fifth Lucky Dragon. The Bloomington, Indiana trio were friends at college and started playing together there. Fifth Lucky Dragon are: Louis Imperiale – Vocals, Keys and Trumpet, Nathan Roseboom – Bass Guitar and Michael Homan – Drums. All three of the guys have somewhat different tastes in music (with some overlapping), which contributes to the genre-fluid sound.
Fifth Lucky Dragon have played New Faces Night at HiFi in Indianapolis, which is somewhat of an accomplishment to be chosen for in the localscene. Louis has spoken on three podcasts, only one of which is published as of now though. The biggest show they have played was a benefit show at Louis’ middle school that they organised and put together to raise money for private music lesson scholarships for middle schoolers who wanted to learn but couldn’t afford to pay for private lessons.
The band’s new single, “Timeline”, was recorded in Louis’s basement except for the piano, which was recorded at AireBorn studios in Indianapolis, IN. Louis wrote and produced the track, as well as recorded his vocals and piano. Sam Ramirez (who works atLarrabee Studios in LA now) recorded Michael Homan on drums, Nathan Roseboom on bass, as well as mixed and mastered the song in his home studio.
The band state: “The best we can hope for in making music – the highest degree of achievement in this weird territory – is to inspire someone else to try creating something. Whether that be a poem, a photo, a painting, or pottery; it does not matter. In a climate of ruthless competition for our attention, the stakes for each of us individually to create have never been higher. It is infinitely easier to passively consume than it is to actively create. Observation, reflection, and the generation of new thoughts are inherently wrapped in the creative process which faces troubling erosion among current and future generations”.
The music of Fifth Lucky Dragon is informed by these realities. Through lyrical integrity and sonic innovation, Fifth Lucky Dragon hopes to deliver music that resonates beyond the songs themselves. Behind the name: Daigo Fukuryu Maru (No.5 Lucky Dragon) was a Japanese fishing vessel impacted by the fallout from a 1954 U.S. hydrogen-bomb test in the Pacific Ocean. To keep an interesting and troubling story short, the crew suffered radiation poisoning within the next few days but not before they unknowingly sold the contaminated fish to people who would soon suffer the similar fates. Louis finds this story compelling because it manifests the potential collateral impact of our decisions and actions. The band name Fifth Lucky Dragon is intended as a reminder of the story and the lessons it offers for each of us.
