FRESH: ‘One For Sorrow’ – Matt Hammond

Matt Hammond has “One For Sorrow”

Percussive guitar, with a dash of vocals. That’s how Norfolk-based singer and songwriter Matt Hammond describes himself. “One for Sorrow”, Matt’s latest release showcasing his percussive stylings and unique take on the acoustic guitar, is out now, the follow up to his earlier 2020 release, “Distance” and is another buckle on the belt for this ever climbing artist since be made his debut, just over a year ago.

Gaining support from the likes of BBC Introducing, Cam FM Breakthrough, The New Music Generator and others, Matt has used this journey to refine his approach on the guitar style, combining this with melancholic vocals which echo that of Death Cab for Cutie and The Cure. Matt has performed at Cambridge Big Weekend, Jimmy’s Festival, Bury Fringe Festival and both the BBC Introducing stage and the Main Stage of Green Meadows.

Matt cites his influences as ranging from Jon Gomm to Death Cab for Cutie and Newton Faulkner, someone we have profiled on this site before. The haunting video for “One For Sorrow” was filmed in a local church in subdued light, which only adds to the mystery of the song as Matt demostrates his sweet and tender vocal along with his expert guitar playing and amazing finger rhythm accompaniment. See for yourself…
