Madonna Albums: Hard Candy

Queen Of Pop, Madonna, has just released her 13th studio album.

The release of “Rebel Heart” hasn’t come without hitting the headlines for various reasons but let’s ignore that for now. Instead, let’s remember her previous twelve studio albums.

Hard Candy” is the eleventh studio album by Madonna. It saw collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, The Neptunes and Nate “Danja” Hills. The album has an overall R&B vibe, while remaining a dance-pop record at its core

Released on April 19th, 2008 it debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, where Madonna joined a select group of artists to achieve ten number one albums!

This album was released at the same time as I began a new career so I recall listening to it at the time a lot!

Track 1 – Candy Shop

Okay, I know she isn’t singing about actual candy but this has a catchy hook and the fact that she might be singing about sweets is even better as I have quite a sweet tooth.

Track 2 – 4 Minutes

Timbaland was everywhere at this time so of course Madonna wanted him involved and Justin Timberlake, well, how could the song not do well if he was on it? I really like this and it has something that appeals to everyone. Of course Madonna and Justin could definitely save the world in 4 minutes despite how the video ends.

Track 3 – Give It 2 Me

This track features none other than a younger Pharell but I think it would have been even better without him. This is so upbeat, catchy and is a punchy anthem of a song and I love this one.

Track 4 – Heartbeat

Heartbeat starts off with a retro feel and then slowly brings us back up to present and takes us to a cool but short chorus. Not quite a ballad but a change in pace from the previous tracks.

Track 5 – Miles Away

This begins with an acoustic vibe and has a kind of hark back to Music/American Life which then begins to blend on into a dreamy pop song.

Track 6 – She’s Not Me

Wow- what a slap in the face “bitch song”. I remember having this on repeat as I walked to work at the time and would always make sure I was walking in time to the beat. This is one of my favourites on the album.

Track 7 – Incredible

It feels like this song wants to be a ballad but has had a drum and bass loop laid over the top. Still nice though.

Track 8 – Beat Goes On

I like this song but I would like it more if Kanye wasn’t on it.

Track 9 -Dance 2night

Another track to feature the wonderful Mr JT and although it’s good, it’s not a patch on 4 Minutes

Track 10 – Spanish Lesson

I’m not really a fan of this one, it just seems too noisy and there’s too much going on.

Track 11 – Devil Wouldn’t Recognise You

The ballad song of this album. It start off quite lullaby-like and I would even say that this song possibly lasts too long. Oh, and I think the devil would recognise you Madge!

Track 12 – Voices

“Who is the master, who is the slave” – what a question to end on!

This is by far one of most memorable Madonna albums. What are your Madonna memories?
