Every UK Number One Song: Mony Mony

Tommy-James_Mony-LP-WebI want to review every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process. Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

“Mony, Mony” by Tommy James & The Shondells was Number One on 3rd August 1968 and stayed there for two weeks.

Tommy started out in music when he was just twelve and was a hip dude when this song hit the top spot.

Interesting fact which I only learned a few years ago is that these guys were the original singers of one of my favourite 80s songs “I Think We’re Alone Now“…

The first version of “Mony Mony” I knew was the Billy Idol cover version which has also now been spoiled for me now due to the fact that someone said to me “don’t you think it sounds like he is singing ‘Ronnie Corbett, Ronnie Corbett‘ rather than Mony Mony…”
