Every UK Number One Song: Those Were The Days

I want to review every UK number one song since charts began in 1952. Thanks to EveryHit, this is a fairly simple process.

Let’s remind ourselves of these songs.

“Those Were The Days” by Mary Hopkin was Number One on 28th September 1968 and stayed there for a massive six weeks.

Mary was one of the first artists to be signed to The Beatles record label, this song was produced by Paul McCartney and was the song with the longest stay at the top so far in this year.

There’s something about this song that has an anthemic quality. Isn’t it funny how most songs that have words such as “lalalalala” or “nanana nana” always have so much power?
