Eurovision Song Contest 2016: Ireland – “Sunlight” By Nicky Byrne

Eurovision 2016 is almost upon us and as the countries begin to reveal their entries let’s start giving them the once-over. The Ireland song is called “Sunlight” and is performed by Nicky Byrne.

ARTIST

Nicky, who has performed in arenas around the world and has sold 45 million records as part of Westlife, will perform the song Sunlight co-written by himself, renowned songwriter Wayne Hector and award-winning composer Ronan Hardiman.

SONG

The song has been produced in Ireland by Ronan Hardiman and Nicky Byrne and mixed in LA by Serban Ghenea who has mixed 140 Number 1 singles including Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off and Uptown Funk from Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.

OPINION

It’s nice to see Nicky go out on his own after taking the backseat in Westlife. It’s a nice song with nice words but I’m just not sure if it’s too “predictable” and “safe”. This could have possibly been a Westlife album filler at one point. It’s all very Ronan Keating circa 1999 I think but a much better effort from Ireland than the past few years.

PREDICTION

A catchy song performed by a well known pretty face so I think it will definitely qualify but I’m just not so sure it will make the left hand side of the leader board.
