Eurovision 2016 is almost upon us and as the countries begin to reveal their entries let’s start giving them the once-over.

As I will be attending the grand final this year it’s even more super exciting for me!

The Netherlands song is called “Slow Down” and is performed by Douwe Bob.

ARTIST

Douwe Bob (23), was born and raised in an Amsterdam artists’ family. In 2012 he was voted best singer-songwriter in the Netherlands and has become established in the Dutch music scene with the #1 album Pass It On and hits like Sweet Sunshine and Hold Me Now (duet with Anouk, 2013 Eurovision Song Contest). His music is characterised by the combination of songs rooted firmly in the 60s and 70s but at the same time, has an extremely contemporary sound. A love for music from that time was something he grew up with.

The chemistry with his band members is essential; their live performances at major national and international festivals and their recent tour of the Netherlands, have been described as formidable. Slow Down is a protest song against the demands of modern life. Douwe believes that it is necessary to sit back and look at what is really important in life.

SONG

It was written in three countries: Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The message in the lyrics has a deep personal meaning; it’s a protest song against society’s demands on people these days.

OPINION

Any song that has prominent acoustic guitars is a winner with me. This is quite a modern-old-fashioned type of song and is delivered very well. I can really see Americans liking this song. Douwe Bob is also a handsome fellow!

PREDICTION

I think the Netherlands will qualify after last year’s disappointment and if it’s performed well his could finish in the top ten!

LYRICS

I’m going nowhere and I’m going nowhere fast
I should find a place to go and rest
I should find a place to lay my head tonight

Every morning, there’s another a start
Every morning hits so hard
Guess I’m running scared, guess I’m running on empty

Mister, can you help me?
‘Cause it seems I’ve been led astray
I keep searching for an answer
For a way

Won’t you help me?

You’ve gotta slow down brother,
Slow down brother, slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on

Do you think I’ll ever learn?
I used to be without concern
Now all I ever do don’t seem to free me

Mister, can you help me?
‘Cause it seems I’ve been led astray
I keep searching for an answer
Today

Won’t you help me?

You’ve gotta slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on
Slow down brother, slow down brother
Slow down if you can’t go on

Good luck Douwe Bob!

Let me know your thoughts and keep me from going Eurovision mad!
