Yearly Playlist 2013

Playlist Of The Year: 2013

Yearly Playlist 2013

I produce a yearly playlist of my Top 40 most played tracks of that year. Thanks to last.fm, this is a fairly simple process.

It’s almost time to produce the 2016 playlist and usually by now I have done a pre-check to see what will be Number One but so far I have refrained and will leave it as a surprise.

I thought it would be a nice bit of nostalgia to share previous year’s playlists on the run up to the big 2016 reveal, so over the next few weeks I will be posting/reminiscing about playlists gone by – let’s hear from 2013…

It was not really a surprise to me that Number One of 2013 was “Another Love” by Tom Odell. In fact he pretty much dominates the Top 20. I played his album, “Long Way Down” constantly over the year. If you’ve not listened to Tom yet I really urge that you do!

Other songs that feature high in the list are by Tegan And Sara. I first started listening to them back in 2005 and they released a brilliant album, “Heartthrob” in 2013. The most played song from it by me was “I Couldn’t Be Your Friend” but every track on the album is a winner. Go listen, go listen!

Sail” by AWOLNATION has made it to the Top 20 despite it being off on a tangent from my usual listening habits as I discuss in this post.

I really like John Newman just now but I didn’t really think much of him at first – a bit of a grower. My favourite song is “Losing Sleep“.

Nice to see a few Gary Barlow songs in there and a yearly playlist wouldn’t be complete without a Eurovision song!

Polly Scattergood released her album late in the year which is why she is towards the bottom – I’m sure next year she will be in the top 10! My favorite song from her new album, “Arrows” is “Miss You”. Take a look at my album review to listen more.
