FRESH: ‘MDMA’ – Samantha Leah

Californian singer Samanatha Leah drops 70’s-influenced “MDMA”!

Samantha Leah is an independent writer, producer, and recording artist born in NYC. She moved to New Jersey as a child, where she began performing in commercials and theater, and eventually moved to California in 2011 to attend university. As she completed her degree, Samantha met many people from other cities – especially LA and San Francisco – and other countries, too, which exposed her to many different genres of music. At this point, she decided to take matters into her own hands and create her own original content.

“MDMA” is a soulful deep house track that encapsulates the feeling of addiction and feeling drawn to something that is not good for you. Whether the addiction is behavioral (love) or chemical (drugs), there is no easy way to cope. Samantha tells us: “I wrote this song to shine a light on the state of mind you are in when you are questioning your addiction and deciding whether or not you are going to allow it to swallow you whole or consciously choose to heal. I do not think that we are given a conclusive answer as to what choice has been made by the end of the song, but I do believe we get a feel for the tug-of-war between freedom through sobriety VS freedom through drug-induced ecstasy (non-sobriety)”.

Samantha’s unique sound is ever-changing and ever-expanding. She possesses a strong adoration of r’n’b and hip-hop, but one will also find many other influences in her music; including pop, jazz, funk, deep house, and trap, as well as spoken word and musical theatre elements. She believes that music artists need not be pigeon-holed into specific genres and is, therefore, always challenging herself to create new, innovative sounds.

Samantha is very passionate about what she stands for and is always seeking to learn more. She is part of a movement that seeks to spread spiritual awareness and highlight the importance of self-love. As a long-time writer, she is known for telling stories through her music, and finding unique and profound ways to do so.
