ARTIST
Chingiz Mustafayev is a Russian-born Azerbaijani singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He will represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv with the song “Truth”.
Mustafayev was born in Moscow and moved to Qazax, Azerbaijan when he was six years old. He learned to play the guitar and started composing his own songs while still a young boy. At age 13, he moved with his mother and his brother to Baku where he auditioned for the Azerbaijani version of Pop Idol in 2007. Mustafayev won the competition, and soon became a rising star in the Azerbaijani music industry.
In 2013, he represented Azerbaijan internationally in the New Wave competition in Jūrmala, Latvia. He placed 11th overall and sang along with Polina Gagarina. Three years later, Mustafayev auditioned for the sixth season of The Voice of Ukraine, however, he was eliminated in the subsequent Battle Round. Since then, Chingiz has performed with his group Palmas, which meld traditional Azerbaijani and Turkish folk sounds with flamenco guitar, rock, and pop twists. In early 2019, Chingiz released the single “Tənha gəzən”.
On 8th March 2019, it was confirmed that Chingiz will represent Azerbaijan in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song “Truth”. He will perform in the second semi-final on 16th May 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel as 18th, closing the semi-final.

OPINIONS

They always give us a good son, right? This, for me, is what Eurovision is all about – a song you can really bop along to. This is the type of song that would also do really well outside of Eurovision.
Chris
“Truth” is very atmospheric. I was unsure when I saw the slightly offensive and repetitive lyrics “shut up, shut up, shut up about it”, but hearing them in the annoyingly infectious chorus, my opinion has mellowed. “Truth” is a great mid-tempo dance number that really only lives for the chorus. Forget the rest of the song.
PREDICTIONS
Steve
Hopefully after last year’s non-qualifier this will bring them back to the final. I think it will but it’s not a winner, it’s a good song but I think it will only make bottom of the left hand side of the leader board.
Chris
Only one-third of “Truth” has the potential to win, but I fear the whole will not stand up or stand out at the end of the night, which is a shame.
LYRICS
“I’m in the mirror
So freakin’ bitter
But I gotta get through
I gotta get through
Keep it together
Be cool under pressure
‘Cause she wants to break you
She wants to break you
Drink ’til I forget
She’s on to the next
And when the ghosts start screamin’
Right when they resonate
Hear my heart confess
It’s been so hard to bear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
It’s just too hard to hear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
Oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Shut up
Shut up about it
Out of the mirror
Things getting clearer
But the night I’m with you
She crashes the room
Gotta remember
She is a killer!
With that freakin’ perfume
Girl, it’s too soon
It’s been so hard to bear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
It’s just too hard to hear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
Oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Shut up
Shut up about it
Oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Shut up
Shut up about it
It’s been so hard to bear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
It’s just too hard to hear
So shut up about it
Shut up about it
Oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Shut up
Shut up about it
Oh, oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Shut up
Shut up about it”
