Duncan de Moor is professionally known as Duncan Laurence and is a Dutch singer who will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel with the song “Arcade”.

Laurence started his musical career at the Rock Academy in Tilburg, playing in a number of school bands. He graduated from the school in 2017. He participated in the fifth season of The Voice of Holland, under the coaching of Ilse DeLange. He, with Jihad Rahmouni, wrote the song “Closer” on K-pop duo TVXQ’s 2018 album “New Chapter #1: The Chance of Love”.

He co-wrote “Arcade” with Joel Sjoo and Wouter Hardy.

I like it but I’m struggling to see why it’s the favourite to win to be honest. Yes, it’s a nice ballad sung well by a handsome man but I really don’t like my Eurovision winners to send me to sleep.

The Netherlands have come up with some cracking songs in recent years (“Calm After The Storm” for one) and “Arcade” is a quiet yet powerful ‘epic’. Again, as with many songs this year, it’s very stripped back and bare, relying on clapping for the most part as it’s only ‘music’ together with a dusting of angelic “ahh’s”.
