FRESH: ‘I Saw Your Face’ – Emily James

Emily James returns with “I Saw Your Face”.

by Christopher Smith

Growing up in New York, singer/songwriter Emily James spent her youth immersed in the diverse culture the city had to offer, gravitating towards musical expression and turning her passion into talent, inspired by such timeless musical influences as Adele, Bob Dylan, and Fleetwood Mac. Drawn to songwriting at an early age, James began writing her own music when she was 10 years old, first on piano, and a few years later on guitar.

Emily relocated to Los Angeles in the summer of 2017 and has been writing and producing for her forthcoming EP. Whetting our appetites for this release, we hear another chapter in her ever-unfolding story “I Saw Your Face”. A slow-burning, emotionally intimate ballad that shirks any modern trend, James wears her heart on her sleeve, sharing her aperture on modern love.

Emily tells us “It was important to me that the production of the song mirrored the story being unfolded through the lyrics. ‘I Saw Your Face’ depicts the many layers of overwhelming emotion that go into resisting your true feelings for someone. I wanted to take the listener on a journey through the highs and lows of all of these emotions, culminating in a wave of sounds surrounding them”.

In 2015, James moved with her family to the songwriting capital of the world, Nashville, and soon after, released her self-penned and self-titled debut EP. A year and a half later, at the age of 18, she released her debut album, “Til The Morning”, which was written by James and produced by Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Vance Joy), and spans multiple genres, incorporating flavors of pop, rock, blues, Americana, and folk.
