Australia’s Hein Cooper returns with “Hijack”.
After dropping previous singles “Hear My Voice” and “Over Again” last year, and playing a bunch of sold out homecoming shows across the country, Hein Cooper returned from writing in British coastal towns, Canadian mountains, and cinematic French chalets with single “Hijack” and announced his second album “Underneath It All” (set for release June 14th).
“Hijack” shows another different side of the album entirely. The album opener offers a moodier take on Cooper’s sound, with a slow brooding build of vocals, beats, and synth set to hypnotise the listener into a woozy swirl of emotion.
Hein tells us “Hijack is an idea I’ve had lying around for a couple of years. I was travelling around Europe in an old VW Polo with a friend playing festival,s and we would drive through the night quite a bit. In order to stay awake we’d listen to heavy electronic music, drink RedBull and smoke cigarettes, and it was so unhealthy but a lot of fun. I was inspired by all this music and those nights on the road. I didn’t really know what the song was about at that point but I knew it needed to carry that feeling of the night and intensity”.
He continues: “Two years later, after an intense experience of new love, I was able to finish the song. It’s about someone coming into your world who at first seems to be dangerous and bad for you, but ends up being exactly what you needed. I think a pop song can be incredibly poetic and still clear, and also be an exciting mix of genres. That’s what I’ve aimed for throughout my new music”. We agree with you Hein!
