Danish singer Ea Kaya is back with “Cruel To Be Kind”!
Following the release of a slew of critically-acclaimed singles last year, leading to her debut EP “Fragile But Strong As Hell” this January, Ea Kaya (the moniker of Danish singer Christine Kiberg) now unleashes her first offering of the year with the killer “Cruel To Be Kind.”
The new release comes through with a floaty, gorgeous pop instrumental juxtaposed with the hyper-frank lyricism that Ea has become known for. Speaking on the track, she states: “The track was written for someone very close to me. They were drowning in frustration, feeling like nothing was going right at the time and so desperately tried to find a way to forget his reality. It was awful to watch, because he’s a gifted person who didn’t cultivate any of his abilities but also because his unhappiness lead to anger that affected his family.
Her self-pity blinded her to the fact that she was the only one who could actively change his situation and mindset. With acclaim from heavyweight tastemakers incl. HIGHSNOBIETY, PAPER MAGAZINE, DUMMY and C-HEADS as well as a co-sign from BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Ea Kaya’s continual quality control looks set to continue to earn her plaudits amongst the tastemakers and pop conoisseurs alike.
Still just 23, Ea continues to define herself with her frank, outspoken wisdom on sex, love and relationships. Making waves as Denmark’s most exciting future-pop prospect, Ea continues to cement her reputation as a bonafide one to watch in 2019. Growing up in Copenhagen, the songstress spent a handful of her teenage years sharing content online. The YouTube-wave hadn’t yet reached Denmark, and though classmates found her weird, the determined teen hit a million views by the shy age of 15.
When finishing high school, Ea Kaya focused on her writing and engaged in various projects throughout the next few years. After mixing pop with everything from soul/jazz to acoustic rock – even switching to her mother tongue for a while – Ea Kaya felt certain about her sound. Settling with electronic pop, the 21-year-old decided to record a solid amount of demos. In September 2016 indie label No3 (CHINAH, Kill J) received these. That same year, Ea Kaya was offered a record deal.
