What next for this year’s Eurovision finalists?
John Lundvik is not the only former sportsperson that entered this years Eurovision Song Contest, representing Denmark this year was 20 year old former junior figure skater Leonora Jepsen, but what is more amazing is that Leonora has never previously recorded and performed as a singer until then! Her song “Love Is Forever” received 120 points to come twelfth, winning a near even number of points from both the jury and tele vote.
Denmark has a long association with Eurovision going eight back to 1957. The country has won three times since then, in 1963, 2000 and 2013 and has overall always finished either in the top ten or just outside the top ten. The country failed to qualify in 2015 and 2016 and came ninth last year with “Higher Ground” performed by male solo singer Rasmussen.
Leonora made her name in the 2014-15 International figure skating championships coming sixth and in the 2015-16 championships coming twelfth. She had previously won the Danish national championship in the Junior category. She won the Danish national Grand Prix to represent the country at this year’s contest by winning 42% of the public and jury vote. “Love Is Forever” is written by Lise Cabble, Melanie Wehbe and Emil Rosendal Lei, and has so far reached No.16 in the Danish singles chart and No.12 in Sweden. So it looks like music will now be the career of Leonora and we await what the future holds for this very talented young lady!
