What next for this year’s Eurovision entrants?
Belgium: Eliot
Belgium last qualified for Eurovision in 2017 when they came fourth with “City Lights”, their third consecutive top ten finish, but failed to reach the grand final in 2018 with Sennek’s “A Matter Of Time”. This year 18 year old Eliot Vassamillet, who had been a contestant on the 2018 series of The Voice (Belgium), was put forward with the song “Wake Up”. Unfortunately, once again, the country failed to qualify which was a big disappointment to the songwriters and Eliot himself.
“Wake Up” was co-written by Pierre Dumoulin who had co-authored “City Lights”, so there was some expectation that “Wake Up” would score well and finish at least top ten. The song has charted at No.27 in the French speaking Wallonia region chart and No.35 in the Dutch speaking Flanders region singles chart. Eliot is currently finishing his secondary schooling at the Collège Saint-Stanislas in Mons but with TV exposure both at home and now globally, it won’t be long before Eliot starts to make further strides for himself in the music industry!
