EUROVISION 2019: What Next – Carousel

What next for this year’s Eurovision entrants?

Latvia: Carousel

by Christopher Smith

Since 2000, Latvia have took part in ten grand final’s of Eurovision, winning in 2002 with Marie N.’s “I Wanna” but failed to qualify in 2017 and 2018, so this year all eyes were on four piece indie/pop band Carousel with their song “That Night”. But alas, it was not to be for a third successive year as Carousel did not gain enough points to progress from their group semi final and were sent home packing.

Sabīne Žuga, Mārcis Vasiļevskis and Staņislavs Judins formed Carousel in 2015 with Mareks Logins joining the group ealier this year. “That Night” was written by Žuga, Vasiļevskis and Judins and is taken from the group’s debut EP “Sketches Of Sleepless Nights”, which has just been released. The group are playing a number of festivals this Summer in Latvia to promote the album and despite not qualifying for Eurovision this time around, the album should be a big hit for them and cement their already growing fan base for many years to come.
