FRESH: ‘Flashbacks’ – Sean Reid

Sean Reid returns with “Flashbacks”.

by Christopher Smith

For Sean Reid, life began in Zimbabwe. He stayed in Mauritius and Nigeria before landing in sunny Glasgow when he was 12. His mother is from Zimbabwe and father from Glasgow. He’s been entertaining for as long as he can remember; but in 2003 he decided to put his money where his mouth was and tried his hand at stand up comedy. Later Sean performed for a couple of years in the Stand Comedy Club.

He then started making beats and rhyming after someone taught him how to use Fruity Loops, fast forward a couple of years and thanks to his connections Sean lands support gigs for Taio Cruz, Lemar, Ms Dynamite and Akon. He was chosen to perform on the T-Break Stage at T- In The Park 2009, then In late 2010 he moved to London and signed a deal with Discpline Music. In January 2011 he released “All I Need Is You” which was No.1 on Sky Music channel Flava, and also received airplay from Mtv Dance, Kiss and Radio 1. He parted ways with London and returned to Glasgow, as his time in the capitol was bittersweet. However, it had invigorated him to return to comedy which was his first creative vent.

Luckily music was always calling him and at the beginning of 2012 Sean was asked to write a vocal to dance track “Espanglish” As Sean explains: “little did I know that the song would have such a following here in Glasgow. We did a typography video for it, and uploaded it to youtube, and it just went bananas, we were at 30,000 views in a couple of weeks. George Bowie rinsed it on The GBX Show on Clyde 1 for months; which helped the cause. George and Clyde 1 invited Sol Fiesta to come with them to Ibiza and to Amsterdam for the legendary boat parties. Epic Fun…we put the X in experience”.

Following his successes in 2016 Sean was asked to become one of the contributors to BBC the Social with BBC Scotland. He was responsible for the segments like Front Seat Freestyles and Mixed Race Minutes. Later in 2018 Sean released his second single “Do That” which was remixed by up and coming producer Boy Panda. “Flashbacks” is Sean’s debut release on powder records. The journey continues.
