The song, “Young At Heart”, was originally recorded by Bananarama in 1983
Despite what you may think, “Young At Heart” was written and performed by British girl group Bananarama. It was recorded for their debut album “Deep Sea Skiving” in 1983 but never released as a single.
Siobhan Fahey’s boyfriend at the time was musician Robert Hodgens who formed the group The Bluebells in 1981. They performed and later recorded a version of the song the following year (1984) and released it as a single, reaching No.8 on the UK singles chart.
In 1993 the song was featured in a car commercial and with great interest, was re-released, this time topping the UK singles chart for four weeks, becoming the twelfth best selling single of the year.
But which version is the best? BANANARAMA’s original or THE BLUEBELLS’s version?
