Live In Stereo

REVIEW: ‘Live In Stereo’ – Bananarama

Bananarama – “Live In Stereo”

by Christopher Smith

With nearly forty years in the business, the enduring Bananarama released their tenth studio album earlier this year, “In Stereo“. This incredible new set of songs struck a chord with the music buying and listening public when it became their most successful album for decades. Sara and Keren took to the road this Summer to promote and play “In Stereo” to appreciative crowds everywhere. From intimate album launch gigs to 40,000 in Hyde Park in September as part of the Radio 2 Festival In A Day, the ‘girls’ have relished performing the hit list from their latest long player as well as the classics that everyone wants and knows so well!

Now Bananarama have issued the audio playlist from these gigs including many of the album tracks as well as some old classics and some tracks that have rarely been performed live to the masses. So it’s great to see the likes of “Movin’ On” (1992), “Every Shade Of Blue” (1996), “Feel For You” (2005) and “Love Comes” (2009) in amongst the likes of their trademark anthem “Venus” in this collection as well as the three releases from “In Stereo“, “Dance Music“, “Stuff Like That” and “Looking For Someone“. Sara and Keren have always enjoyed their ‘amateur’ approach to their career as well as their live performances, unscripted, totally unique and above all fun!

Every time I have seen them perform live as a duo and a trio over the past ten years, they have never failed in producing a really great show with first class vocal performances and of course, all the hand actions that are ingrained into all of us old enough to of learned them back in the 80’s! “Live In Stereo” is out on white vinyl, CD and of course, all digital platforms, and nicely follows on from the release of their reunion with Siobhan in 2017. I never tire of seeing Sara and Keren live, even if it’s two or three times a year and it’s the same setlist, so it’s pure joy to listen once again to this year’s new additions from one of the best albums of 2019.
