EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ – Ray Charles

What was the number one song in the UK on 12th July 1962?

By Hayley Beasley Dye

The legendary Ray Charles, was number one for 2 weeks with I Can’t Stop Loving You.

Oh this is very pleasant for one’s ears, a lovely bit of Ray Charles. The alternating of Ray’s vocals and of the choir’s work beautifully. I just want to be transported back to 1962, so that I can slow dance to this song with my sweetheart please. I think this will most likely be my favourite number one from this year. I like it. I like it a lot.

Lyrics

I’ve made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times
(I can’t stop wanting you)
It’s useless to say
So I’ll just live my life in dreams of yesterday (dreams of yesterday)
Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho’ long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time has stood still since we’ve been apart
I’ve made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times
(I can’t stop wanting you)
It’s useless to say
So I’ll just live my life in dreams of yesterday
those happy hours
(That we once knew) that we once knew
(Tho’ long ago) tho’ long ago, (still make me blue) still make me blue
(They say that time) they say that time
(Heals a broken heart) heals a broken heart
(But time has stood still) time has stood still
(Since we’ve been apart) since we’ve been apart
I said I’ve made up my mind
To live in memories of the lonesome times
Sing the song, children
(I can’t stop wanting you)
It’s useless to say
So I’ll just live my life of dreams of yesterday (of yesterday)
