The longest it has taken to reach the top of the UK album chart is…
64 weeks! This record is held by David Gray’s “White Ladder” album (originally released in 1998), which debuted in June 2000 and had been in the top 40 of the UK album chart for 64 consecutive weeks before attaining the peak position on 5th August 2001.
However…The album that holds the record for the longest climb to number one is “The Very Best Of Sting And The Police”. Released in November 1997 and originally peaking at No.11, it took 223 weeks before it returned and eventually topped the chart in March 2002 when Sting received the Outstanding Contribution Award at that year’s Brit Awards.
