EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘Diamonds’ – Jet Harris and Tony Meehan

What was the number one song in the UK on 31st January 1963?

By Hayley Beasley Dye

British instrumental duo, Jet Harris and Tony Meehan, were number one for 3 weeks with Diamonds.

Oh Jeez, Jet & Tony are one half of The Shadows, so I’m really not feeling this first part of 1963, guys. From Cliff to The Shadows to these guys. However, I actually much prefer this track to the previous number one offering from The Shadows. It’s actually got a lot of variety within it and uses many different musical instruments. It’s got the annoying Shadows-esque bass guitar in it, but apart from that it’s a lot more enjoyable to listen to than The Shadows.
