EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ – The Beatles

What was the number one song in the UK on 12th December 1963?

By Hayley Beasley Dye

The Beatles are back, this time with I Want To Hold You Hand, which was number one for 5 weeks.

I Want To Hold Your Hand was my very first favourite Beatles song, back when I was tiny thing, so obviously I have a lot of affection for it. It has a raw quality to it, which gives it a lads-rehearsing-in-the-garage feel to it, which I actually love. It’s a very sweet song, with a very simple & innocent request throughout it. Is there anything more lovely and pure than wanting the privilege of holding someone’s hand?

Lyrics

oh yeah, I’ll tell you something
i think you’ll understand
when ill say that something
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
oh please, say to me
you’ll let me be your man
and please, say to me
you’ll let me hold your hand
now let me hold your hand
i wanna hold your hand
and when i touch you i feel happy inside
its such a feeling that my love
i cant hide, i cant hide, i cant hide
yeah, you’ve got that something
i think you’ll understand
when ill say that something
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
and when i touch you i feel happy inside
its such a feeling that my love
i cant hide, i cant hide, i cant hide
yeh, you’ve got that something
i think you’ll understand
when ill feel that something
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
i want to hold your hand
