The Fizz release brand new track “The World We Left Behind”
And release brand new album “Smoke And Mirrors” on 6th March!
The unmistakable sound of Bucks Fizz – known now as The Fizz – returns in 2020 with their brand-new album “Smoke And Mirrors”. After the success of their triumphant return on 2017’s album “The F- Z Of Pop”, which bridged the classic Bucks Fizz sound with modern pop by mixing old favorites with new material, the band now have written another chapter into their incredible story.
“Smoke And Mirrors” sees pop royalty The Fizz – Mike Nolan, Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston – once more teaming up with Mike Stock, of legendary hitmaking trio Stock Aitken Waterman, on a collection of original songs written and produced for The Fizz, that are as effervescent as ever. The album was recorded at Mike Stock’s studio in Surrey. Commenting on the new album, the band said “We’re thrilled to announce our new album, especially so because the release was delayed giving our Jay time to recover. But, with no Reservation you can tell she is back to winning ways! There’s such a lot of our story in the album and we hope you love it as much as we do. See you on tour!”.
Each song on the album was written specifically with The Fizz in mind, helping to create a deeper, layered sound littered with auto biographical references to the band’s lives and career. Cheryl’s daughter Kyla Stroud also contributes as does Jay herself. Mike comments, “It’s so great to complete another album with The Fizz. Always a joy and a privilege. Can’t wait to do it all again…”.
One notable composition is the song “From Here To Eternity”, co-written in the 1990’s with fellow Stock Aitken Waterman founder Matt Aitken, and reimagined for the album. The song has a particular resonance for the band as Jay’s lead vocals were recorded on the day she got her cancer diagnosis. Now, happily fully recovered. Still sounding as energetic as they did in the 80’s, The Fizz continue to reach out to their ever-increasing circle of fans, constantly expanding their live shows and delighting audiences worldwide with the timeless sound of The Fizz.
A history of pop music would be incomplete without The Fizz. The band were formed in the early 1980s and went on to represent the United Kingdom at the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland. It is part of pop music folklore that they won it in spectacular fashion. Bucks Fizz were launched to become a global phenomenon. They have collected countless music industry awards including, in 1982, Best Group at BPI Rock and Pop Awards (now known as the Brits), and an Ivor Novello Award, cementing their place in 80’s music history and a highly successful recording career: their albums and singles combined have earned sales of more than 50 million records worldwide.
