TRIVIA: Parents and Children That Have Topped The UK Singles Chart
Offspring that have followed a parent to the top of the UK singles chart
So far, only one father and son have achieved this. Julio Iglesias (b.1943) topped the UK chart in 1981 with “Begin The Beguine”. Over twenty years later, his son Enrique (b.1975) took his single “Hero” to the top of the UK singles chart.
To date, there have been no mother and daughter’s to of achieve this but there has been a father and daughter. Ozzy Osbourne (b.1948) topped the chart in 1972 with “Changes” as part of Black Sabbeth. 31 years later, his daughter, Kelly (b.1984) took the same song to number one in September 2003, featuring her own dad for a second time!
Of course, father and daughter had previously topped the chart together in 1967, when Frank (1915-1998) and Nancy (b.1940) Sinatra went to number one for two weeks in March with “Something Stupid”.
We do, loosely, perhaps need to mention that a whole family has topped the UK singles chart in 1991! The Simpsons spend three weeks at the top in February with their single “Do The Bartman”! I said ‘loosely’ as these are only cartoon characters. D’oh!
