TRIVIA: The Youngest UK Album Chart Topping Artists

The youngest male and female singers and the youngest band to reach the top of the UK album chart are:

Neil Reid (b.1959) – who was 12 years and 9 months old when his self-titled debut album topped the UK chart in 1972. Neil had won the Scottish Opportunity Knocks contest in 1971 and reached No.2 with his first single, “Mother Of Mine”.

Avril Lavigne (b.1984) – who was 17 years and 3 months old when she reached No.1 in 2002 with her debut album “Let Go”, which featured the singles “Complicated” (US No.2, UK No.3) and “I’m With You” (US No.4, UK No.7).

McFly – The four members of McFly: Tom, Harry, Danny and Dougie were 18y 11m, 18y 7m, 17y 10m and 16y 7m respectively when they topped the chart with their debut album, “Room On The 3rd Floor”, in July 2004.
