FRESH: ‘Like You Used To’ – Skip Curtis

Skip Curtis returns with “Like You Used To”

After previous single “Satellite” was A-list playlisted by BBC Radio, Welsh singer-songwriter Skip Curtis introduces the heart-wrenching follow-up “Like You Used To” today. The track is a powerful lament built around acoustic guitar and laced with subtle instrumentation that builds progressively through the song, mirroring the emotion of the vocal. Skip’s lyrics embodying the grief, frustration and confusion often found in being blind-sided when a relationship falls apart.

“Sadly, I think it’s a pretty relatable experience for most people. Heartache, heartbreak, whatever you want to call it, is a difficult thing to cope with. Especially when you don’t see it coming, or you don’t know the reason for it” her told us recently. “Like You Used To” reinforces Skip’s growing reputation as a songwriter and artist. The minimal instrumentation managing to captivate whilst intensively subtle arrangement holds the listener’s engagement throughout.

Skip’s vivid yet relatable lyrics and a soaring chorus help create a vocal hook that will stay with you. It is a song that wouldn’t seem out of place in a set from evocative singer-songwriters like Ray LaMontagne or Damien Rice whilst simultaneously sounding like the sort of hard hitting ballads we could expect from writers and artists with wider commercial. Skip writes and produces all his music himself and releases on his own label Pet Shop Records. “Like You Used To” is taken from Skip’s debut album “Culture Violet” planned for release in 2020.
