EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘The Minute You’re Gone’ – Cliff Richard

What was the number one song in the UK on 15th April 1965?

Cliff’s back! Did you miss him? He’s at number one again with The Minute You’re Gone.

The Minute You’re Gone has a real country feel to it and indeed the song is written by Jimmy Gateley who was a Nashville based musician. The song seems dated listening to it amongst other number ones from 1965. It’s as if Cliff hadn’t quite caught up with the music revolution of the 60s in the UK yet. It’s quite slow and Cliff, I’m sorry babes, but it’s also bit dull. It’s 1965, Cliff- catch up.

Lyrics

The minute you’re gone I cry
The minute you’re gone I die
Before you walk out of sight
I’m like a child all alone at night
I stare into emptiness
I’m filled with such loneliness
The world goes from right to wrong
The minute you’re gone
The minute you’re gone
I see
How lonely a man I’ll be
My life would be oh so blue
If I couldn’t be with you
The Minute you’re gone I pray
The minute you’re gone I say
Please don’t stay away too long
The minute you’re gone
The minute you’re gone
