TRIVIA: The Most Times The Same Song Has Topped The UK Singles Chart

The most times the same song has reached number one in the UK is:

Four. This has been achieved twice, so far.
Unchained Melody” – taken to the top in 1955 by Jimmy Young, in 1990 by The Righteous Brothers, 1995 by Robson and Jerome and in 2002 by Gareth Gates.

Do They Know It’s Christmas?” – A number one in 1984 for Band Aid, for Band Aid II in 1989, Band Aid 20 in 2004 and Band Aid 30 in 2014.

Three other songs have topped the chart three times by three different artists.
“You’ll Never Walk Alone” – in 1963 for Gerry & The Pacemakers, 1985 for The Crowd and Robson and Jerome (again) in 1996.

“Spirit In The Sky” – Norman Greenbaum in 1970, Doctor & The Medics in 1986 and Gareth Gates (he does love a cover, doesn’t he!) in 2003.

“With A Little Help From My Friends” – First for Joe Cocker in 1968, then Wet Wet Wet in 1988 and finally for Sam and Mark in 2004.
